Gilliam Music, Norman
Jack Frederick Kilpatrick (1915-1967) was an Oklahoman composer of Cherokee descent who wrote nearly 550 works for orchestra, voice, piano, or chamber ensemble. The manuscripts for Kilpatrick's piano music were discovered in 2018 at the University of Oklahoma and are now archived in OU's Western History Collection. Kilpatrick's music blends a number of stylistic influences such as Americana and Native American music. This workshop will discuss Kilpatrick's life and many of the significant pedagogical piano works from the recent discovery of his music.
